National Minimum Wage in Malta (2026)
The national minimum wage in Malta is published by the Department of Industrial and Employment Relations (DIER) under the Employment and Industrial Relations Act (Cap. 452).

18 years and over
€229.44 / wk
Equivalent to approx. €5.736 / hour based on a standard 40-hour work week (~€994.24 / month basic).
17 years old
€222.66 / wk
Equivalent to approx. €5.567 / hour based on a standard 40-hour work week (~€964.86 / month basic).
Under 17 years old
€219.82 / wk
Equivalent to approx. €5.496 / hour based on a standard 40-hour work week (~€952.55 / month basic).
Key minimum wage provisions
- Minimum wage rates apply to all whole-time employees in all sectors of employment.
- Part-time employees are entitled to pro-rata minimum wage rates based on their contracted hours.
- Category B Class 1 Social Security contribution is fixed at €22.94 / week for adult employees earning minimum wage.
- Employers are also obligated to disburse the statutory quarterly bonuses and allowances on top of basic minimum wages.
